We need to find something that faces south. Most people think of their roof first when they think of solar power. That's great, roof mounted solar arrays are the most common residential installations for several reasons. They look great, are out of the way, increase property value and often have the best exposure to sunlight. That being said, not everybody has a roof with Southern exposure...
Fortunately, not all solar systems have to be installed on roofs. Residential solar systems can also be installed on the ground, on poles or ground mounted racking systems which can then be oriented to the South. This can be a great option for those without an ideal roof orientation, or even others looking to expand an existing system.

An area unaffected by shading. Prime production hours are between 9 A.M. and 4 P.M. each day, so it's particularly important to keep the shade off your solar array during those hours to maximize your generation capacity. So if you happen to live in a house deep in a dark forest surrounded by tall trees....solar may not be the best option for you.
